D'Agostini Shines Despite Loss to Top Ranked Walleye

TOLEDO, OHIO - For the first half of Saturday night's clash between the Brampton Beast and the Toledo Walleye at the Huntington Center, it appeared like these two clubs were on the verge of producing their second compelling one-goal matchup in eight days. However, two late goals in the second period by the host team turned this affair on its head and the Walleye road their momentum to a big 4-0 win.
Providing the heroics for the Walleye was forward Tyson Spink with a hat trick, and goaltender Jake Paterson with a 21-save shutout.
The best Beast player on the ice on this night was goaltender Andrew D'Agostini, who turned aside 35 of 39 shots for his team. He made many difficult saves in the first half of this contest to give his team a chance to settle into a groove.
Brampton (19-11-1-2) has now dropped the first two games of its busy three-game weekend. The Beast will attempt capture a victory over the Kalamazoo Wings tomorrow afternoon at home in order to not head into next week empty-handed.
After both clubs traded chances for the first 10 minutes of this tilt, D'Agostini took center stage as the Walleye picked up seven of the last nine shots on net in the first frame.
Toledo outshot Brampton 12-7 in the opening period.
It was the Beast that roared out of the gate to start the second period as they managed to pressure Paterson with multiple opportunities both at even strength, and even while they were killing off Toledo man advantages.
However, the Walleye withstood the barrage of chances and pounced back with a plethora of scoring chances during the last of the second period.
Spink delivered the ice-breaking goal at 15:45 by beating D'Agostini with a hard one-time blast on an odd-man break. He picked up his second goal of the period - a power-play marker - with 14 seconds remaining before the second intermission by slamming home the rebound after the Beast goalkeeper denied a Nolan Zajac wrist shot from the blue line.
The home team edged Brampton 16-11 in shots during period two.
Brampton was not able to produce a dramatic comeback on this night as the Walleye took their game to another gear in the third period. They picked up 11 shots on net while the Beast could only muster three.
Toledo scored two goals in 79 seconds at the midway point to put this game out of reach: First, Spink completed the hat trick at 8:29 and defenseman Frank Misuraca notched his first ECHL goal at 9:48.
Brampton's Sunday matchup against the K-Wings commences at 2 p.m. at the Powerade Centre.
