Wilson, N.C. - Chowan University will be sending two left-handed pitchers, Cody Smith and Will Edwards, to the Tobs for the summer. Kutztown University will be sending right-handed pitcher Peter Masterson to join the pitching staff at the Tobs.
Smith, junior from Rocky Mount, NC, saw 33.2 innings on the mound for the Hawks this past season. Smith finished the season with 33 strikeouts and a 2.14 era. On the year, Smith only gave up three home runs and eight earned runs.
Edwards, junior from Rocky Mount, NC, pitched 33.1 innings on the season and finished with a 8.91 era. Edwards saw only one home run hit off him on the season and struck out 10 batters.
Masterson, junior from Park Ridge, N.J, threw 17.1 innings for the Bears this season. Masterson struck out 18 batters and gave up five doubles which were the only extra-base hits Masterson gave up this season.
"Three experienced pitchers is a great addition to the team," head coach Aaron Lynch said.
The Wilson Tobs home opener for the 2017 season is Sunday, May 28th at 6 p.m.. The Tobs will be facing the Fuquay-Varina Twins. Season tickets, ticket packages and single-game tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.wilsontobs.com/tickets or by calling, (252) 291-8627.
The Wilson Tobs enter their 21 st season as an original member within the Coastal Plain League for the 2017 Summer. The upcoming season for the Tobs will see an expanded community outreach effort, increased participation in helping the less fortunate and more exciting entertainment for the Wilson Community.
