D-II Three for Steamers

Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers are proud to announce that Alex Britt, Jimbo Pernetti and Jesse Stinnett will join the Clams for the 2016 summer.

Britt, a right-handed pitcher out of the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, returns to the Braves as their closer. The junior stands 6'0" 170 pounds and hails from Lumberton, NC. Britt spent last summer with the New Market Rebels of the Valley League, where he made seven appearances, five of which were starts. In 31 innings of work, he fanned 30 batters while walking only 10. Britt is a closer by trade, but he was afforded the opportunity to stretch into a starter last summer in the Valley and acquitted himself rather well, showing the arsenal and quality of stuff and command to succeed multiple times through a lineup. He was the quintessential stopper last spring for Pembroke, averaging two innings per appearance while racking up seven saves and five victories with a WHIP of 1.00 and 57 strikeouts to 11 walks.

Jimbo Pernetti comes to Edenton from California State University-Chico, where he serves as a mid-order bat for the Wildcats. The 6'3" 290-pound junior played ball for Merced College in the California JUCO ranks last spring where he slashed .347/.453/.535/.988. The Ceres, CA native saw time at both corners, finishing the spring with a .995 fielding average. Pernetti is a big, strong, right-handed, power bat, who combines excellent slug-ability with the outstanding plate discipline the Clams look for in their power hitters. He looks the part of a next-level infield-corner bat and is continuing his collegiate career at a perennial D-II powerhouse, Chico State, in one of the best conferences in the country. Jesse Stinnett (STIN-it) becomes the second Steamers' signee from UNC-Pembroke, joining fellow pitcher Alex Britt. The 6'4" 220-pound junior will serve as the Braves' game one weekend starter in the spring. Stinnett hails from Madison Heights, VA, and he had a brief stint in the New England Collegiate League with the Laconia Muskrats last summer, making only two starts before his season was cut short. When healthy last spring, the former transfer from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore was the ace of his Mideastern Conference school staff with a 6-5 record on a 16-33 club with a 2.98 ERA.

Jesse Stinnett (STIN-it) becomes the second Steamers' signee from UNC-Pembroke, joining fellow pitcher Alex Britt. The 6'4" 220-pound junior is the Braves' game-one weekend starter so far this spring. Stinnett hails from Madison Heights, VA, and he had a brief stint in the New England Collegiate League with the Laconia Muskrats last summer, making only two starts before his season was cut short. When healthy last spring, the former transfer from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore was the ace of his Mideastern Conference school staff with a 6-5 record on a 16-33 club with a 1.11 WHIP, 2.98 ERA and 79 strikeouts to 20 walks. Through three starts this year with the Braves, Stinnett is 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA and fanned 13 in 15 frames.

Edenton picks up three more players from two of the best Division II conferences in the country with this week's signings. Britt and Stinnett should have a chance to impact the pitching staff in the bullpen and rotation, respectively. While Pernetti provides a versatile corner infielder with a chance to be a mid-order, right-handed power bat.
