D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. - D.C. United today announced, in conjunction with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), that the club is set to play Club Deportivo Guadalajara S.A. de C.V. (commonly known as Chivas Guadalajara or Chivas) in a friendly match this summer. The duel will take place on Friday, July 12 at RFK Stadium at 8 p.m. ET.
"Club Deportivo Guadalajara and D.C. United are among the most storied clubs in North America, and we're looking forward to participating in what's sure to be a competitive match against Chivas," said D.C United Chief Operating Officer Michael Williamson. "An integral component of our "Summer of Soccer," this game will provide our fan base yet another opportunity to watch the Black-and-Red take on a world-renowned team."
Chivas Guadalajara's summer tour will mark the Mexican club's first return to the U.S. since October 12, 2011, when Chivas tied MLS' Sporting Kansas City 2-2 in Kansas City. Prior to facing off against the Black-and-Red, Chivas is set to clash with Club America on Wednesday, July 3 in Las Vegas, NV.
One of the most successful clubs in Mexico, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, has captured 11 titles in Mexico's Primera División and has raised two Copa México trophies since its founding in 1906. The 107-year-old club is the only club in Mexico to exclusively field Mexican players, a concept that has made Chivas a provider of amazing talented players to the Mexican national team for many years, including current Mexican National Team Head Coach Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre, Omar Bravo, Carlos Salcido, and Javier "Chicharito" Hernández.
Tickets for this match and D.C. United League matches July 27 - October 27 will go on sale to the public Saturday, June 1. All D.C. United plan holders will be eligible for pre-sale opportunity. Tickets may be purchased at www.dcunited.com or by calling 202-587-5000.
