D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (February 3, 2010) - D.C. United today announced the club has acquired forward Adam Cristman from the Kansas City Wizards and in return sent one of its international roster spots to the Wizards until December 31, 2011.
"We are pleased to have concluded a trade for Adam," said United General Manager Dave Kasper. "He is a hard working, athletic striker who will provide solid cover for us. We look forward to having him join us in pre-season camp."
Last season, while with the Wizards, Cristman played in five games (three starts), accumulating 213 minutes on the pitch. His season was cut short when he suffered a fractured metatarsal that required surgery and kept him off the field for an extended period of time. The Glen Allen, Virginia native was originally acquired by Kansas City from the New England Revolution on November 24, 2008 for allocation money and the Wizards' third round selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.
In 2008, Cristman played in 18 games (16 starts) for the New England Revolution, scoring a career-high six goals - good for third-most on the team. During his rookie campaign in 2007, Cristman appeared in 28 games (14 starts), scoring four goals and registering four assists, both of which were second among all rookies. This outstanding production from the player earned him a spot as a Finalist for 2007 MLS Gatorade Rookie of the Year award. Cristman was drafted in the fourth round (48th overall) by New England in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.
Cristman's college career at the University of Virginia was littered with honors, as the former Cavalier was a two-time NSCAA All-South Atlantic Team and All-ACC Team honoree in 2005 and 2006. In 2006, Cristman helped lead Virginia to the NCAA College Cup for the first time since 1997. In all, the forward tallied 34 goals and 15 assists as a four-year starter for the Cavaliers.
