Cyclones Take First Game of Series

August 10, 2007 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

The Cyclones came back to win the first game of a three game series against the Auburn Doubledays on Friday night at KeySpan Park.

The teams were scoreless through the first three innings as Cyclones pitcher Nick Carr recorded 4 of his 7 strikeouts. Doubledays pitcher Marc Rzepczynski was equally dominant, with 5 strikeouts through the first 3 innings and finished the game with 10 K's.

Brooklyn opened the scoring in the bottom of the 4th, when Micah Schilling singled to lead off the inning, before J.R. Voyles -- returning in his first game since being hit by a pitch on July 27th -- doubled off the leftfield wall. Third baseman Jake Eigsti followed with an RBI groundout, and Lucas Duda singled to bring in the second run of the inning and give Brooklyn a 2-0 lead.

Auburn immediately responded in the top of the 5th with three runs, but Brooklyn answered for good in the bottom of the seventh. That inning, Duda led off with a double, and when Will Vogl attempted to sacrifice him to third, an error allowed the Cyclones to score and put Vogl on first base. Jefferies Tatford then drove in the winning run, with a double that plated Brandon Kawal, who had reached on a fielder's choice, and gave the Cyclones the 4-3 lead.

Cyclones relievers Edgar Ramirez, Steve Cheney, and Brant Rustich held the Doubledays hitless for the final four innings to give the Cyclones the victory.

The Cyclones will host the Doubledays once again on Saturday night at 6 PM. It will be Super Hero Night at KeySpan Park, and any fan who attends the game in costume will be able to take the field with the players for the National Anthem, and run the bases after the game! In addition, the first 1,250 kids 14 and under will receive a Comic Coloring Book.
