Cyclones Drop Close Affair to Quad City

February 15, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (23-23-4-0) fell to the Quad City Mallards, 3-2, on Wednesday night. Forward Tommy Mele recorded both goals for the Cyclones.

After the Mallards took a 1-0 lead midway through the first on a goal from Justin Kovacs, the Cyclones got on the board in the second, when forward Christiaan Minella sent a pass to Mele and he wristed a shot off the crossbar and in to tie the game, 1-1, 2:25 into the frame.

That momentum was short-lived however, as Quad City received two more in the period from forwards Michael Parks and Grant Arnold to take a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes.

In the third, Cincinnati pulled to within a goal while on the power play, when a shot from forward Shane Walsh was initially kicked out by Mallards netminder CJ Motte, but the rebound went right to Mele who slammed it into the net to pull Cincinnati to within a goal at 3-2.

Cincinnati continued to apply the offensive pressure throughout the remainder of the final frame and received a number of Grade A chances in the final minutes. Despite the late offensive push however, the Cyclones were not able to net the equalizer and the Mallards held on for the 3-2 win.

Cincinnati was outshot, 30-21 on the night, with goaltender Michael Houser stopping 27 in the loss. The Cyclones and Mallards wrap up their season series on Friday night in the Quad Cities, with the face-off slated for 8:05pm ET.
