Cyclones Again Nip Aces 2-1 Friday
March 18, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL) - Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Martin Lefebvre scored his first goal of season in the second period, and it proved to be the game winner as the Cincinnati Cyclones upended the Alaska Aces 2-1 Friday night at the Sullivan Arena.
The loss kept the Aces from increasing their hold on fourth place in the Mountain Division. Coming into the game, Alaska had a 4-point lead over Utah and 5 over Missouri. Both the Grizzlies and Mavericks lost Friday.
After a scoreless first period that had the Aces outshooting the Cyclones 8-6, the Aces net was pierced by Shane Walsh at 1:58 of the second. The goal was Walsh's 17th of the season, assisted by Shawn O'Donnell and Jordan Sims. then it was Lefebvre zipping a shot past Alaska goaltender Kevin Carr at 10:36, assisted by Eric Knodel and Nick Huard.
Shots after two favored Alaska 21-13.
The Aces finally got on the board at 14:17 of the third period. Ben Lake, racing deep into the Cincinnati zone, banged the puck loose from the end boards with a resounding check, then took the puck to the goal line where he snapped it over the shoulder of Cyclones netminder Michael Houser for his 9th goal of the season. Helpers on the play to Charlie Sampair and Garet Hunt.
Alaska pressed for the equalizer to no avail, and suffered its 7th consecutive loss on home ice.
Final shots were 33-20 Alaska.
The Cyclones were 1-2 on the power play, the Aces 0-4.
The Aces and Cyclones will play again Saturday night at 7:15pm ADT at the Sullivan Arena.
