When he left Wednesday night's game at Whataburger Field, the Hooks' right-hander had a touch of Cy Young in him, departing with a 3-1 lead, having allowed just three hits, with no walks and four strikeouts. Kevin Comer went the last 2.1 innings for the save as Corpus Christi won its second consecutive game in the series, 4-1.

Garrett Sneed led a 12-hit Hooks attack, going 3-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring three runs and adding a stolen base.

Mott Hyde led off the third inning with a double down the right field line against 'Hounds starter Ben Bracewell, advancing on Bobby Boyd's sacrifice bunt and scoring on a sac fly from Houston Astros' outfielder Preston Tucker, who is with Corpus Christi on a rehab assignment. Stubbs rekindled the rally with a triple into the right field corner, very narrowly beating the relay throw from second baseman Joe Bennie.

J.D. Davis' double off the wall in left field, which gave the Hooks a 2-0 lead, would prove to be the eventual game-winning hit.

Yairo Munoz cut the lead to 2-1 with the RockHounds' first hit off Sneed, a solo home run to left field on the first pitch of the fifth inning. Stubbs then singled and scored the game's final two runs in the fifth (on Ramon Laureano's double) and seventh (on Conrad Gregor's single).
