Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA - The Kansas City Royals announced on Tuesday their Omaha Players of the Month for the month of April, with infielder Cheslor Cuthbert tabbed the club's Hitter of the Month and reliever Brian Duensing honored as the team's Pitcher of the Month.

Over 20 games in the month of April, Cuthbert posted a .325 average (25-77), adding 11 runs scored, three doubles, one triple, five homers and 23 RBI for Omaha. The Nicaragua native drove in at least one RBI in 15 of those 20 contests, including each of his final six matchups of the month. In addition, Cuthbert paced the Pacific Coast League in RBI in that time frame, as well as tied for fifth in home runs, and eighth in slugging percentage (.584).

The 23-year-old prior to this season was rated the tenth-best prospect in the Royals organization by Baseball America. He was signed by Kansas City as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2009 out of Nicaragua and made his Major League debut with the Royals last season on July 6.

Duensing yielded a lone earned run over his seven appearances out of the bullpen for the Storm Chasers, posting a 1-0 record and 0.73 ERA (1 ER/12.1 IP), adding 12 strikeouts while walking only one batter. The Omaha native held opposing hitters to just a .163 batting average (7-43), and did not allow a run over his final five outings (8.2 IP).

The southpaw was signed by Kansas City as a minor league free agent prior to the 2016 campaign after playing in the Minnesota Twins organization over his first 11 professional seasons. The lefty was originally selected by the Twins in the third round of the 2005 MLB Draft out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Following their 4-3 road victory last night to begin the month of May, the Pacific Coast League leading Storm Chasers return to action this evening to continue their four-game road series with the Memphis Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Autozone Park with Omaha expected to send RHP Miguel Almonte (1-2, 3.45) to the hill. Memphis is slated to counter with RHP Jeremy Hefner (2-0, 2.95).

The Storm Chasers return to Werner Park to begin an eight-game homestand on Friday, May 6.
