ERIE, Pa. - Pablo Reyes scored the tying run in the eighth and drove a go-ahead, two-run single in the twelfth inning as the Altoona Curve beat the Erie SeaWolves, 3-1, on Monday night at UPMC Park.
The Curve (10-7) snapped their three-game losing streak. The SeaWolves (8-8) held the Curve to 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Trailing 1-0 entering the eighth, Reyes was walked by Adam Ravenelle and moved up to second on a throwing error during a pick-off attempt. A groundout by Elvis Escobar moved Reyes to third with one out, and a ground ball hit by Kevin Newman rolled through the legs of Erie second baseman Logan Watkins, scoring Reyes and tying the game.
The game stayed tied until the twelfth. Chase Simpson reached on an infield single and Connor Joe walked against Victor Alcantara (Loss, 0-1). After Michael Suchy popped out on a bunt attempt, Zane Chavez grounded out to first, moving the two runners into scoring position. Reyes followed with his two-run single to left-center, giving the Curve a 3-1 lead.
Tate Scioneaux (Win, 3-0) worked a perfect bottom of the twelfth to cap his three scoreless innings.
Altoona starter Alex McRae worked six innings and allowed one run, a solo home run by Christin Stewart in the second. He did not record a strikeout, stretching a streak for him of 11.2 innings since his last punch-out.
Miguel Rosario worked three scoreless innings and allowed one hit with three strikeouts.
The Curve and SeaWolves continue the series on Tuesday night at UPMC Park. Right-hander J.T. Brubaker (1-1, 4.76) will start for the Curve, opposed by Erie lefty Tyler Alexander (0-2, 5.93). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
