Trenton Thunder News Release

Despite 14 combined strikeouts by the Thunder pitching staff, Altoona earned a 2-1 win in front of 7,168 fans at ARM & HAMMER Park on Saturday night.

The Thunder struck for the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning when Abiatal Avelino drove in Zack Zehner with a single to take a 1-0 lead against Curve starter Brandon Waddell. The lefty wiggled out of further trouble, stranding a pair on base, with a groundout off the bat off Jeff Hendrix.

Altoona scratched out a pair of runs in the third and fourth inning against Domingo Acevedo to take a 2-1 lead. In the third, Cole Tucker drove in Justin Maffei with a single to tie the game. Anderson Feliz came around to score after his leadoff triple in the fourth inning when Muffei singled him home.

Each team's bullpen filled at least four innings of relief and kept the opponent scoreless. For the Thunder, Anyelo Gomez and Cale Coshow combined for four shutout innings after Domingo Acevedo. Acevedo went five innings, allowed two runs on five hits and four walks and suffered his first loss in a Thunder uniform. He struck out seven in the defeat.

The Thunder offense was held without a baserunner in their final nine at-bats of the game as Sean Keselica and Tate Scioneaux finished off the victory for Altoona.

Acevedo, Gomez and Coshow combined for 14 strikeouts, matching a season-high by Thunder pitching in a game.
