Altoona Curve News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Altoona right-hander Tim Alderson suffered a rare setback in what was his final start in an otherwise very successful 2009 campaign for the 20-year old right hander.
Alderson was touched up for a season-high seven runs over 5.0 innings of work as the Altoona Curve dropped a 7-2 decision on Friday night to the Binghamton Mets (AA - New York Mets) at NYSEG Stadium.
Alderson dropped just his second decision as a Double-A pitcher and his first in a Curve uniform.
The loss is the sixth consecutive defeat for Altoona (60-79) who also started the season 0-8, a franchise worst.
Altoona was paced offensively Brian Friday, who enjoyed a 4-for-4 night and driving in one of the two Curve runs. It was just the second time that Friday has recorded a four-hit night in his career. The last time Friday accomplished the feat was on May 7, 2008 when he was a member of the Lynchburg Hillcats and wrapped a quartet of hits in a game versus Winston-Salem.
Jonel Pacheco also recorded another multi-hit game for Altoona, belting a pair of doubles. Pacheco now has recorded multiple hits in the last eight consecutive games in which he has started and in 10 of his last 12.
Two other players (Shelby Ford - 2-for-5 and Miles Durham - 2-for-5) also recorded multi-hit games. The two through five hitters in the Curve lineup going a combined 10-for-19, but stranded 11 men on base.
Altoona will look to snap their six-game skid in the second game of the final four-game series of the 2009 season on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. when they send lefty Daniel Moskos (10-10, 3.84) to the mound for his final start of the season. Binghamton (53-84) will counter with LHP Mike Antonini (7-4, 5.25). Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on flagship station ESPN Radio, 1430 and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates.
