Altoona Curve News Release

RICHMOND, Va. - The Altoona Curve rallied with four runs in the top of the ninth to come back and beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 5-2, on Friday night at The Diamond. Reese McGuire clubbed the game-tying double, and Stetson Allie hit a two-run single to put the Curve ahead.

The Curve (18-17) are above .500 for the first time this season and have won a season-best four straight games. The Flying Squirrel (10-24) have now lost eight consecutive games.

Austin Meadows led off the top of the ninth with a double and moved to third after a flyout by Edwin Espinal. The next batter, Reese McGuire, doubled down the right field line to bring Meadows in to score and tie the game against Richmond closer Ray Black (Loss, 0-3).

Black walked the next three Curve batters, and pinch hitter Stetson Allie bounced a single into center field to bring Eric Wood and Barrett Barnes in to score and give the Curve a 4-2 lead. Harold Ramriez followed with an RBI single to add an extra insurance run.

Jared Lakind (Save, 2) worked around a walk with a double play in the bottom of the ninth and sat down Myles Schroder to close out the Curve win.

Curve starter Tyler Eppler allowed two runs (one earned), both in the fourth inning, and matched a career-best with seven innings pitched for the second straight start, both against Richmond. Dovydas Neverauskas (Win, 1-0) worked around a walk to pitch a scoreless eighth inning.

Ramirez led off the game with a double, the first of his three hits in the game, and came in to score on a sac fly by Meadows to put Altoona in front, 1-0, in the first inning.

Richmond tied the game with an RBI single by Hunter Cole in the fourth. Later in the inning, a fielding error by Ramirez in right field plated Cole and put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 2-1.

Barnes reached base in all four of his plate appearances, with three singles and a walk on his line. Meadows had two hits, including a double.

The Curve and Flying Squirrels play the third of the four-game series on Saturday night at The Diamond. Right-hander David Whitehead (1-4, 7.40) will take the mound for Altoona, opposed by Richmond lefty Matt Gage (0-4, 5.40). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. in Richmond.
