ERIE, Pa - Pedro Alvarez smacked his first Double-A home run, a two-run shot in the fourth inning and that was the key hit that sparked his team to score six additional runs as the Altoona Curve slugged their way to a 8-4 victory over the Erie SeaWolves at Jerry Uht Park on Wednesday night.

The home run for Alvarez was his first Double-A hit. Alvarez also scored three runs for the Curve en route to finishing his night going 1-for-5.

Jason Delaney (2-for-5) also got in on the home run fun, also belting a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning, providing needed insurance runs for Altoona. Delaney finished the night with 3 RBIs.

Righty Derek Hankins started for Altoona and gave up two unearned runs over four solid innings and striking out five. He would then give way to the relief trio of Randy Newsom (WP), Tyler Herron, Corey Hamman tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of relief before Jeff Sues came on to pitch the ninth and allowed a pair of runs before thwarting a comeback attempt by

The Curve will look to grab the rubber match of the series on Thursday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Should the Curve win tomorrow, it would be the third series the Curve have won in their last four they have played. Altoona starts right-hander Mike Crotta (4-3, 5.14) while Erie will send RHP Pat Stanley (1-2, 4.88) to the mound. Radio coverage begins at 11:50 a.m. on flagship station ESPN Radio, 1430-WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.

NOTES: Jim Negrych enjoyed a 2-for-4 night at the plate after coming into the game hitting just two for his last 30 (.067)...C Steve Lerud left the game in the eighth inning for precautionary reasons after mildly straining his right hip, but should be available Thursday if needed...Former Curve starter Brad Lincoln tossed 6.1 innings of two-hit baseball and allowed just one run in his Triple-A debut with Indianapolis in a 4-1 win at Lehigh Valley
