September 6, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Chicago Cubs announced that they have called up LHP John Gaub, INF DJ LeMahieu, and OF Lou Montanez from Triple-A Iowa today. The three players will join their Iowa teammate, Bryan LaHair, who was called up to Chicago on September 1st when the big-league rosters officially expanded.

The call up is Gaub's first and his first appearance will mark his Major League debut. Originally drafted by the Indians, Gaub was traded to the Cubs, along with pitchers Chris Archer and Jeff Stevens, during the 2008 offseason for Mark DeRosa. Gaub has spent parts of the past two seasons in Iowa. He made a career-high 50 appearances with the I-Cubs in 2011. In 55.1 innings of work, he was 4-4 with seven saves, a 3.42 ERA, and 75 strikeouts. Gaub was selected to the 2011 mid-season PCL All-Star game.

LeMahieu joins Chicago for the second time this season. He was called up by the Cubs on May 30 from Double-A Tennesee, and made his Major League debut with a pinch-hit at-bat that day. He went on to play in 26 games and hit .243 (9-for-37) with one double and one RBI. LeMahieu was optioned to Iowa on June 28. He batted .286 with seven doubles, three homers, and 23 RBI, and only made one fielding error in 58 games with the I-Cubs. LeMahieu batted .358 with 15 doubles, two homers, and 27 RBI in 50 games with Tennessee to begin the season. He was one of 12 Smokies to be named to the Southern League mid-season All-Star team.

Montanez, who was the third overall pick by the Cubs in the 2000 draft, made his Chicago debut after he was called up from Iowa on May 24 this season. Montanez left the Cubs' organization after the 2006 and made his Major League debut with the Orioles in 2008. He signed a minor league deal on January 12, 2011 to rejoin the Cubs. In 25 games during his call up with Chicago, he hit .239 (11-for-46) with three doubles, a home run, and nine RBI. Montanez batted .321 with 22 doubles, a team-leading seven triples, seven homers, and 69 RBI in 92 games with Iowa this season.
