JOLIET, IL - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, ended a four-game skid with an 8-6 victory over the Joliet Slammers on Sunday afternnon. The Crushers (8-13) set season highs for hits (12) and runs in an inning (7) while the Slammers (8-13) fell to the Crushers for the first time at home this season.

The Slammers drew first blood with a run in the second. Danny Zardon led off with a double, moving to third on a wild pitch. Melvin Rodriguez followed up with a high chopper to second to score Zardon for the 1-0 advantage.

Joliet extended their advantage in the third. With two outs, Edwin Gomez and Rock Shoulders connected for back-to-back singles, and Zardon launched a homer to right field for a 4-0 Slammers lead.

The Crushers answered with a season-high seven runs in the top of the fourth. Connor Hofmann sparked the rally with a one-out single, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Josh McAdams followed with another single to put runners on the corner, and a third consecutive single from Parker Norris plated Hoffman and left runners on the corners. McAdams then charged for third in an attempt to steal, and after catcher Steven Pollakov's throw sailed into left field, McAdams came home to score and Norris scampered to second.

Max Casper kept the inning alive with RBI single, and Connor Oliver put Lake Erie ahead for the first time with a two-run blast to right. The Crushers continued to rally as Jordan Dean connected for a two-out base knock, and after he stole second, Brandon Murray drew a walk. In the next at bat, Sean Hurley polished off the inning with a two-run double to give the Crushers a 7-4 lead.

Joliet kept the game interesting with two tallies in the sixth. Zardon led off with a single, and Melvin Rodriguez replaced him at first on a fielder's choice. Ridge Hoopii-Haslam followed with a base hit to put runners on first and second, and C.J. Needam plated a run with another single. An errant throw to third in an attempt to get Haslam soared over the head of Norris, allowing Haslam to score and bring the Slammers within one.

Lake Erie picked up an insurance run in the eighth inning when Tanner Lubach led off with a home run to right to give the Crushers an 8-6 advantage.

Steve Hagen (3-0) collects the win, lasting 5.2 innings while allowing six runs on nine hits while walking one and fanning seven. Chandler Jagodzinski finished off the ninth inning, striking out two to pick up his fifth save of the season.

After taking Monday off, the Crushers open up a midweek series with the Southern Illinois Miners. Jordan Kurokawa (2-0, 2.67) will be the game one starter for Lake Erie with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.
