Crunch Special Teams Power Past Devils

Syracuse, NY- The Syracuse Crunch special teams powered past the Albany Devils 6-0 tonight at the Times Union Center in Albany.

The special team units combined for all six Crunch goals, a season-high four power-play tallies, two shorthanded scores and shut down Albany's six power play chances. Syracuse goaltender Riku Helenius recorded his third shutout of the season by stopping all 24 shots he faced.

Ten Crunch players recorded at least a point in tonight's win, which improves the team's overall record to 27-14-2-4 and brings their road record to 17-6-0-2.

Syracuse defenseman provided the first three Crunch goals, beginning with Mark Barberio just 45 seconds into the opening frame. Dmitry Korobov and Radko Gudas scored power-play goals just 37 seconds apart at the start of the second period to give the Crunch a 3-0 lead five minutes into the middle stanza.

Forward Dana Tyrell scored his first goal as a member of the Crunch with a shorthanded breakaway at the 12:21 mark of the second period. Crunch captain Mike Angelidis would add another shorthanded tally with just 14 seconds to play in the period.

The Crunch's fourth power-play tally came at the 16:49 mark of the middle frame when JT Wyman deflected a Philip-Michael Devos shot past Albany netminder Keith Kinkaid.

After allowing six goals on 16 shots through the first two periods Kinkaid was replaced by Jeff Frazee at the start of the third period. Frazee would stop all six shots he faced in a scoreless third period.

Crunchables: Ondrej Palat returned to the Crunch lineup after missing six games due to injury... The Crunch are 17-0-2-1 when leading after the first period...Mike Angelidis now leads the Crunch with two shorthanded tallies this season...With an assist on tonight's first goal Brett Connolly extended his point streak to six games..Tyler Johnson has four points in his last three games...The five goals scored in the second period is the most goals in a period by the Crunch this season.
