Syracuse Crunch News Release

Lowell, MA (January 13, 2010) - Goals from Kevin Harvey, Maksim Mayorov and Jonathan Sigalet and 32 saves from Dan LaCosta helped the Crunch extend their season-long winning streak to three games, as Syracuse held on for a 3-2 victory over the Lowell Devils tonight at Tsongas Arena in front of 1,348 fans.

Both teams came out the gate ready to play with a fast-paced first few minutes.

Harvey got the scoring started for the Crunch when he took a great feed from Simon Ferguson from behind the net and sniped a shot over the shoulder of Lowell starter Mike McKenna to make it 1-0 just six and a half minutes into the first.

The Crunch went up 2-0 just under two minutes later at the 8:24 mark.

Jordan Lavallee-Smotherman gained the zone and shuffled a wrist shot from the left point on goal that McKenna could not handle. The rebound popped back out to the slot where Maksim Mayorov found it and snuck it past McKenna for the two-tally lead.

McKenna was replaced by Jeff Frazee after letting in two goals on five shots.

The second half of the first frame was scoreless and LaCosta was solid in the net for the Crunch stopping all 14 shots he faced.

The Crunch stretched their lead to 3-0 at the 4:17 mark of the second when Lowell's Rob Davison was called for hooking.

On the ensuing power play, Jonathan Sigalet's wrister from the point found its way through traffic and eluded Frazee for the goal.

The score stayed that way until Eric Castonguay punched a rebound past LaCosta with just eight seconds left in the period to cut it to 3-1.

That goal gave Lowell some momentum, as they scored again to make it a one goal game at 3-2 just 1:51 into the third stanza when Brad Mills tipped in a Matt Taormina shot from the point past LaCosta.

The Devils out-shot the Crunch by a 34-26 margin for the game, but LaCosta denied 32 of those 34 Lowell bids to shut the door on the 3-2 win.

The Crunch travel to Springfield on Friday, January 15 to wrap up their season-long five game road trip before returning home on Saturday, January 16 to take on arch-rival Rochester at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
