Crunch Drop 5-3 Decision against Bears

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch dropped a 5-3 decision against the Hershey Bears today at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA.
The Bears scored four unanswered goals to secure their first win against the Crunch this season. Syracuse holds a 3-1-0-0 advantage in the season series. With 75 points and an overall record of 34-16-3-4 the Crunch maintain first place in the East Division.
The Syracuse penalty kill unit had a perfect three for three record tonight but Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins allowed five goals on 19 shots and the power-play unit failed to score on its two man-advantage opportunities.
Hershey opened the scoring 6:53 into the opening frame with a goal from Jon DiSalvatore. The puck came off the end board to the stick of DiSalvatore who beat Desjardins with a shot from between the circles.
Syracuse center Kyle Wilson evened the score 8:47 into the first frame by putting the rebound of a JF Jacques shot past Bears goalie Dany Sabourin.
Tyler Johnson gave the Crunch the lead with 35 second to play in the first period on his, league-leading, 29th goal of the season. Richard Panik took a pass from Mark Barberio and set up Johnson for a one-time shot at the circle that beat Sabourin.
Evan Oberg opened the second period with his first goal of the season 1:43 into the frame. Oberg scored on a shot from the point that gave the Crunch a 3-1 lead and chased Sabourin from the game. After allowing three goals on 13 shots Sabourin was replaced by Philipp Grubauer.
Jeff Taffe evened the game with two goals in the second period. Taffe scored his first goal of the night by beating Desjardins from the right side of a three-on-one at the 10:42 mark of the second. Taffe's second of the night came from the top of the left circle with 3:27 to play. The center finished the night with four points (2g, 2a).
Cameron Schilling gave the Bears a 4-3 lead 11:16 into the final frame when the puck trickled over the goal line after a scrum in front of the net. Casey Wellman scored a breakaway goal, beating Desjardins on the backhand for a final score of 5-3.
