Syracuse Crunch News Release

Rochester, NY (September 27, 2009) - Playing their third preseason game in three nights, the Syracuse Crunch defeated the Rochester Americans 3-1 tonight at the ESL Sports Centre.

The Crunch got off to a fast start by scoring twice in the game's first three minutes after Rochester's Jimmy Bonneau was given a five-minute major for boarding, setting up a lengthy power play for the Crunch.

Jared Aulin opened the scoring at the 1:18 mark by recording his second goal in as many nights when he found the puck in the slot and rifled a shot over the shoulder of Tyler Plante to make it 1-0.

Syracuse's second marker came just 1:15 later while still with the man-advantage. Tim Filangieri's point shot sailed wide and was retrieved behind the net by Erik Stoyanovich. Stoyanovich made a quick bass in front to Brock McBride, who shoved a shot past Plante for the 2-0 lead.

Rochester stuck back to make it 2-1 on a power play of its own at the 13:30 mark. Jamie Johnson found the puck after a scramble in front of the net and roofed the puck over an outstretched Kevin Lalande.

The score stayed that way until thirteen minutes into the third frame when Trevor Frischmon took a pass from Erik Stoyanovich and broke in on a partial breakaway.

Frishchmon collected the puck, made a quick move to his forehand and beat Plante to the blocker side to make it 3-1.

After killing off two late power plays including a two-man advantage for 42 seconds, Tim Miller found Kevin Harvey coming out of the penalty box. Harvey deposited the puck into an empty net to seal a 4-1 win for the Crunch.

Lalande turned aside 22 of 23 shots in the win.

The Crunch wrap up the preseason against Rochester Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
