Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Stone Crabs shortstop Jake Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a walk Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to 19 games in the team's 10-3 loss to Dunedin at Charlotte Sports Park.

Cronenworth also made three diving plays at shortstop to complement his night at the plate. The St. Clair, Michigan native is hitting .418 during the streak, which dates back to September 3 of last season. He ranks in the top two in the Florida State League in batting average (.394), runs (17) scored and on-base percentage (.500).

With the game tied in the top of the second, Dunedin (10-9) singled three times before Derrick Loveless was called out on runner's interference. After another hit loaded the bases with one out, Charlotte (7-11) starter Michael Velasquez (0-2) struck out Kevin Vicuna for the second out. With two outs and the bases loaded, Andrew Guillotte grounded a ball to third base. Stone Crabs third baseman Kevin Padlo bobbled the ball and then fired over the head of the first baseman, allowing two runs to score. With Dunedin up 2-0, Velasquez walked Cavan Biggio before Max Pentecost went deep to left for a grand slam, opening up the score at 6-0.

Still down six in the bottom of the fourth, Stone Crabs left fielder Mallex Smith tripled to the wall in right center before Brett Sullivan grounded out to score Smith and make the score 6-1.

Lane Thomas and Mike Reeves each added RBI hits in the top of the sixth before Guillotte's sacrifice fly extended the Dunedin lead to 9-1.

With Blue Jays starter Angel Perdomo (2-1) out of the game in the seventh, Ryan Boldt singled for Charlotte before Dalton Kelly doubled him to third. David Olmedo-Barrera then drove in Boldt on a groundout before Angel Moreno flew out to deep right to score Kelly and trim the deficit to 9-3.

Dunedin added another run in the ninth to cap the scoring at 10-3.

The Stone Crabs' home record is now 2-10 for the year, mirrored by their 5-1 road mark.

Charlotte will go with RHP Eduar Lopez (0-2, 5.54) Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Dunedin will counter with RHP T.J. Zeuch (1-0, 1.64). Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
