Crawdads Offense Erupts in 11-2 Win over West Virginia

The Hickory Crawdads snapped a three game losing streak thanks to five RBI's in the first two innings from 1B Steve Pearce in an 11-2 win over West Virginia Monday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Pearce hammered his South Atlantic Leading eleventh homer of the season, a three run shot off of West Virginia starter Kevin Roberts, to give the Crawdads a 3-0 lead in the first.

In the second Pearce's two out, bases loaded single made it 5-0. Pearce finished the game with four hits in five at bats; he drove in five and scored twice.

Crawdad starter Joe Bauserman (2-2) worked seven innings to earn the victory. Bauserman allowed seven hits and two runs while walking one and striking out four.

Roberts (2-4) took the loss. The righty lasted just innings allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits while walking five and striking out two.

The Crawdads blew the game open with five runs in the seventh inning. Crawdad CF Andrew McCutchen drove in two with a single. The hit was one of three in the game for McCutchen. Hickory 2B Cameron Blair also drove in two with a single in the seventh.

West Virginia 1B Ned Yost, the son of the Milwaukee Brewer manager by the same name, had three hits and scored one run.

The two teams meet in the last of a two game series Tuesday night at 6:30pm. Hickory right hander Kyle Pearson will face WV southpaw Derek Miller.
