Crawdads Burn Suns for Second Straight Sweep

Hickory, NC-The Hickory Crawdads beat the Hagerstown Suns, 7-4, on Tuesday at L.P. Frans Stadium. The win was Hickory's season-high 8th straight, and also marked the Dads' second straight series sweep. With Lakewood losing at Greensboro, Hickory went up 3 games on the BlueClaws in the northern division lead. Lake County is 2.5 GB and plays at Lexington tonight.

Hagerstown scored 2 runs on a double by Jhonatan Solano off SP Matt McSwain in the 3rd. Those were the only runs and hit McSwain allowed in 4 IP. Hagerstown led Hickory 2-0 by the bottom of the 5th.

The Crawdads pulled even behind a 2-run double launched to center by Pacheco. With the score tied at 2-2 after the 5th, the Dads' went ahead in the 6th. With Kent Sakamoto aboard, Eddie Prasch doubled to center, putting 2 men in scoring position. After J.L. De Los Santos walked, Alex Presley served a double into right, scoring Sakamoto and Prasch, to give the Dads' a 4-2 lead. Hickory added another run to go up 5-2.

After Felipe Garcia allowed a run and loaded the bases in the 7th, Chris Castorri came in and dodged a bases loaded jam without any additional harm done. The Dads' got that run back with an RBI single by Kris Watts in the bottom of the inning.

With Hickory up 6-4 in the 8th, Presley cranked a solo shot off the foul pole in right, his 7th HR of the year. Chris Castorri closed out the win with a scoreless 9th. Castorri earned his 2nd save. Dustin Molleken (1-0) worked 2 shutout innings in relief of McSwain for the win.

The Crawdads begin a 4 game series with Lake County tomorrow at 7:00 at L.P. Frans Stadium. RHP Matt Mike Crotta is scheduled to start for Hickory. All games can be heard live on WMNC 92.1 FM.
