San Antonio Rampage News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled center Garth Murray from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In addition, center Kevin Porter has been re-assigned to San Antonio.
Murray, 26, has appeared in eight games for the Coyotes this season. In 25 games with the Rampage, Murray has registered 7-2-9 and 82 penalty minutes (PIM).
Murray began last season with the Montreal Canadiens and appeared in one game before being claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Murray then suffered a season-ending shoulder injury after playing in six games and collecting 19 PIM with the Panthers. In 114 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Canadiens, Panthers and Coyotes, Murray has recorded 8-2-10 and 131 PIM. He has also appeared in six career NHL playoff games.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Murray was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (79th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Porter, 22, has recorded 5-5-10 in 33 games this season for the Coyotes as a rookie. He has also scored one goal in two games with San Antonio this year.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Porter won the 2008 Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player last season as a senior at the University of Michigan. Porter ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring by collecting 33-30-63 in 43 games and led Michigan to its 23rd Frozen Four appearance in school history while also serving as team captain. Following the completion of the college season, Porter joined San Antonio for the Calder Cup Playoffs and collected four assists in seven games.
Porter was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
