Kane County Cougars News Release
CLINTON, Iowa - Cheslor Cuthbert and Brett Eibner each launched homers, and Leondy Perez won his fifth start in a row on Saturday night as the Kane County Cougars cruised past the Clinton LumberKings, 6-1, at Alliant Energy Field. The Cougars' victory moved them to 19-7 on the road in the 2nd Half, and they moved their lead over Clinton for the top playoff spot in the Western Division back to three games with 16 left in the regular season.
The Cougars knocked out 14 hits in the game -- every starter had at least one -- and seven of them went for extra bases. Cuthbert belted a two-run homer in the first off Roenis Elias (2-1) to make it 2-0, and Eibner smashed a three-run shot in the fifth for a 5-0 score. Geulin Beltre's sixth-inning RBI single and Orlando Calixte's ninth-inning RBI single accounted for the Cougars' other runs.
Perez (7-11) snapped his streak of consecutive quality starts at four but continued his recent dominance. He is 5-0 in his last five starts and has yielded just two earned runs in 30 2/3 innings in that span. Alex Rivers turned in a pair of relief innings and yielded one run and Nick Rogers logged the final two to seal the victory.
The Cougars (32-22, 60-63) and LumberKings (29-25, 53-71). Santiago Garrido (2-4, 5.86) will make the start against Carter Capps (0-0, 5.79). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online via kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 1:45 p.m.
