Kane County Cougars News Release

PEORIA, IL - The Kane County Cougars took out some frustration Wednesday night in Peoria. They hammered the Chiefs, 12-1, in front of 4,232 at O'Brien Field to snap an eight-game losing streak in head-to-head contests against their intrastate rivals. The victory came after the Cougars lost, 9-8, in 12 innings earlier in the night in the completion of Tuesday night's game at Wrigley Field.

Down 1-0 after two innings, the Cougars took control in the third against Robert Hernandez (1-3) by scoring five runs, with RBIs from D.J. Hollingsworth, Michael Richard, Todd Johnson and Jake Smith. Then in the fifth the Cougars managed five more. Johnson connected for an RBI single, Smith hit a three-run homer and Shane Keough drove in Petey Paramore for a 10-1 rout. Larry Cobb's two-run homer in the sixth accounted for the 12-1 final.

Cougars starter Anthony Capra (1-1) notched his first pro win with a quality start. He allowed one run on seven hits, walked one and struck out five over six innings, and Justin Friend worked the final three innings for his eighth save.

The Cougars (15-23) and Chiefs (22-17) conclude their three-game series Thursday night at 7 CT. Carlos Hernandez (1-0, 6.35) will face Kevin Kreier (5-4, 3.97).
