Prince George Cougars News Release

Prince George, B.C. - With the 25th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, the Dallas Stars have selected Prince George Cougars prospect Riley Tufte (Ham Lake, MN).

Tufte (6'5", 205 pounds), a forward, was added to the Cougars 50-man protected list in July, 2013. Last season with Blaine High School (USHS), Tufte scored 47 goals, added 31 assists and 53 penalty minutes in just 25 games. He also dressed in 27 games for the Fargo Force of the USHL and scored 10 goals, four assists and added 30 penalty minutes. For his efforts, Tufte was named Mr. Hockey Minnesota in 2016. He also represented Team USA at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament held in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. During the 2014-15 season he captured a silver medal with the United States at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and earlier this week was one of 42 US-born players invited to attend USA Hockey's National Junior Evaluation Camp which runs July 30th - August 7th in Plymouth, Michigan.

"I remember watching Riley Tufte play for the first time and thinking: He's going to play in the National Hockey League one day," said Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. "Now for him to be picked by the Dallas Stars and one step closer to that dream is very exciting. We are very happy for Riley and we want to congratulate him and his family on all that they've accomplished to this point."

Rounds 2 - 7 of the NHL Draft continue tomorrow from Buffalo, NY starting at 7:00 AM local time.
