Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill.-Four errors cost the Kane County Cougars as the Clinton LumberKings posted 10 runs in the middle three innings to blast the Cougars, 10-4, on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
It was the Cougars (60-61, 26-25) jumping on the board initially as they grabbed three runs in the bottom of the second against Clinton (54-65, 31-2) starter Jordan Pries (2-0). Michael Antonio ripped his fifth dinger of the season to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage. Alex Llanos and Tim Ferguson followed up with singles before Chris Elder doubled off the left field wall in his first Kane County at-bat, driving home both baserunners.
Clinton didn't have a hit during the first three innings against Angel Baez (6-5), but they got to him in the fourth. Dan Paolini singled with one out and came across the dish after a two-out double from Jabari Blash. In the fifth, Guillermo Pimentel started the frame with a double and scored after Anthony Phillips's sac bunt which resulted in an errant throw from Baez.
Dillon Hazlett followed with another sac bunt that Baez threw wildly down the right field line, scoring Phillips with the tying run. Paolini untied the game with a two-run homer to chase Baez from the contest. Clinton pushed home five more tallies in the sixth against Jason Mitchell. Ramon Morla cracked a two-run double and scored on a two-bagger from Kevin Rivers to highlight the rally. Elder added an RBI double in the ninth to cap the scoring.
The Cougars are at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Thursday when they host the LumberKings at 6:30 p.m. For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
