Prince George Cougars News Release

Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars have won the right to choose first in the 2010 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, which goes April 29 in Edmonton.

The Cougars were one of six teams involved in Wednesday's WHL Draft Lottery in Calgary, which decided the first six selections of the upcoming Bantam Draft. The Cougars, with the most balls in the lottery, had one of their six balls drawn, giving the Cougars the first overall pick. Cougars Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel Wade Klippenstein was in attendance at the lottery, which was supervised by Andrew Mark of KPMG. The Edmonton Oil Kings get the second pick, the third pick goes to Lethbridge, the fourth selection will be by Seattle, the fifth pick goes to Regina and the sixth selection will be by Prince Albert.

"It's a big deal to get the first pick and we're really excited about it," said Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson. "We get to go to all the provincial camps now and instead of guessing about what's going to happen in front of us, we'll get to make our own decision."

This is the third time since the Cougars moved to Prince George that the team has had the first overall selection and first time since 2004. The Cougars had the first pick in the 1994 WHL Bantam Draft.
