July 30, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill.-Jorge Bonifacio broke out of an 0-for-24 slump with a tiebreaking double as the Kane County Cougars beat the Quad Cities River Bandits, 5-3, on Monday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Bonifacio's rocket down the left field line came against reliever Jonathan Cornelius with two outs in the bottom of the fifth as Alex Llanos scored to unknot a 3-3 tie. Llanos evened the score at 3-3 a couple batters prior as he singled with two away to bring home Kevin David. David walked to start the frame against Tyrell Jenkins (2-4), who lasted 4.2 innings and was pulled after the Llanos knock.

Tim Ferguson put the Cougars (53-53, 19-17) on top in the bottom of the second as he ripped a double to deep center, scoring Dean Espy after Espy cracked a two-bagger to reach base. Ferguson was drawn to the dish by a Yowill Espinal bloop single over short. Angel Baez (6-3) was unable to keep the lead in tact as he surrendered three runs to Quad Cities (51-54, 16-20) in the third inning.

David Medina and David Bergin posted back-to-back RBI singles while Jeremy Patton picked up a sac fly to score Medina, giving the River Bandits their only lead. Kane County tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth as Dean Espy scored after a botched rundown and an error by Bergin after he lost the ball when David collided with him at first. Rudy Brown, Andrew Triggs and Malcom Culver (S, 5) strung together four straight scoreless innings out of the Cougars' bullpen to close the contest.
