Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (21-26) returned home to face the Charleston RiverDogs (30-16) Thursday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
A close game throughout the evening, the RiverDogs got on the board first with an RBI-single by Kendall Coleman to bring in Angel Aguilar. Augusta tied it in the forth when Kelvin Beltre double on a line drive to center to score Matt Winn.
Still tied at one in the 8th, things got heated and the situation intensified when a bang-bang play at first brought manager Nestor Rojas out of the dugout. Charleston's Nathan Mikolas had singled on a ground ball to second base, but the runner was called safe. Rojas pleaded his case but to no avail and was ejected. The RiverDogs would score the go-ahead run off a Hoy Jun Park ground ball to the right side.
Charleston added the insurance run in the 9th.
GreenJackets starter Cory Taylor threw 7.1 superb innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. He falls to 3-1 on the season. Connor Kaden threw 0.2 innings in relief, and Caleb Smith pitched the ninth inning.
The GreenJackets return back to action Friday night as they take on the Charleston RiverDogs. It's Ladies Night! There will also be a Phoenix Printing calendar giveaway to the first 1,000 fans. First pitch is 7:05pm and gates will open to fans starting at 6:00pm.
The projected pitching matchup is Daris Vargas (4-0, 2.23 ERA) versus Michael Connolly (1-1, 3.31 ERA).
The 28th consecutive season of professional baseball in Augusta is underway. All GreenJackets Ticket Plans (including Full, Half, and Weekend and the all-new 6-Game Flex Plans) and individual tickets are on sale now.
