FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, took an early lead Sunday but saw it disappear in a 9-2 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Frisco (40-35 overall, 2-4 second half) scored a pair of early runs in the first inning to take a lead against starter Kent Emauel (2-0). Ronald Guzman and Joe Jackson each had RBI singles to put the Riders up 2-0.

The Hooks (51-25, 4-2) wasted no time answering against Riders starter Reed Garrett (2-2), drawing two bases-loaded walks in the second inning to pull even at 2-2. Corpus Christi left the bases loaded in the second and missed opportunities in the fourth and fifth, stranding eight runners in the first five innings.

However, the RoughRiders were unable to fend off Corpus Christi any longer, surrendering seven runs in the sixth inning. Garrett allowed the first four runs, and reliever Joe Filomeno allowed the final three on a three-run home run from Conrad Gregor. It was Corpus Christi's second seven-run inning against the Riders this month, after doing the same thing on June 17.

Meanwhile, Frisco picked up just two hits after the first inning as Emanuel worked six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Michael Freeman held the Riders scoreless for the final three innings to earn his second save.

The RoughRiders will have three days off as part of the All-Star break. Six Riders will participate in Tuesday's Texas League All-Star Game at Hammons Field in Springfield, Missouri. Outfielder Ryan Cordell and first baseman Ronald Guzman earned starting spots, while outfielder Preston Beck and catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be reserves. Pitchers Connor Sadzeck and Victor Payano will also represent the Riders in Springfield. Pitcher Adam Parks, also selected to the team, will not make the trip due to injury.

After the All-Star break, the Riders return to action Thursday in North Little Rock, Arkansas with a three-game series against the Arkansas Travelers. First pitch Thursday is at 7:10 p.m. Fans can listen to the action live on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:35 p.m.

The Riders return home to begin a six-game homestand starting Wednesday, July 6 against the Arkansas Travelers and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The homestand includes a Michael Gruber bobblehead giveaway on July 7, Salute to 8-bit and Arcades Night on July 8, and Princess Night on July 9. Tickets for the upcoming homestand and other remaining games this season are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
