Corletto Joins MISL Office

January 7, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release


(Westport, Conn., January 7, 2003) – The Major Indoor Soccer League has named Lou Corletto, former Washington Capitals Director of Public Relations, as the circuit’s Director of Communications. Corletto replaces Greg Bibb who has been named the Philadelphia Kixx’s Executive Vice President and General Manager after serving nearly two years as the MISL’s Director of Public & Media Relations.

“Lou Corletto brings a wealth of sports communications experience to the MISL,” Commissioner Steve Ryan stated. “We are excited to have him join the League’s front office and anticipate his broad base of knowledge to be a tremendous asset to the League and our member clubs.”

CorlettoÂ’s resume boasts over 25 years of professional sports management experience. A University of Richmond graduate, Corletto began his career in the marketing department of the Atlanta Braves. After four years with the Braves, Corletto joined the Richmond Robins of the American Hockey League before being named as a marketing representative for the Washington Capitals in 1974.

In 1979, Corletto was appointed the Capitals’ Director of Public Relations. During his time with Washington’s National Hockey League entry, Corletto was involved in numerous special events including the 1982 NHL All-Star Game and the “Save the Caps” campaign. In addition, he was selected by the NHL to work with the media for several Stanley Cup Finals.

Corletto resigned from the Capitals in 1993 to become the Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League. Since that time, Corletto has held numerous executive level positions in hockey and professional sports while managing his owns sports consulting firm, Corletto Sports Marketing, Inc.

Prior to joining the sports industry, Corletto served three years in the United States Army and is a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy.

Bibb has served as the MISLÂ’s Director of Public & Media Relations since February 2001. During his time at the League office, Bibb administered the implementation of various award programs, highlighted by the introduction of the Spalding Scoring Award. The Hershey, PA native also spearheaded the restructuring of the LeagueÂ’s Internet Property, the creation of the MISL Information Network and the development of relationships with numerous national media sources.

The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization featuring a coast-to-coast presence with eight teams located across the United States. The MISL is the single major league of indoor soccer, playing a 44-game schedule that began on September 28, 2002 and concludes on March 23, 2003.
