Corbin Sets BayBears Record in Win Over Barons

Mobile BayBears News Release
HOOVER, Ala. - Patrick Corbin ran his scoreless innings streak to 27.1 before the Birmingham Barons pushed a man home in the bottom of the eighth while the BayBears cruised to a 4-1 victory at Regions Park on Thursday night.
Corbin (6-2) broke the franchise's consecutive scoreless innings mark in the bottom of the fifth when he ran into his biggest threat of the ballgame. Birmingham (34-26) loaded the bases with no outs as Kyle Shelton singled in front of a walk and a hit batsman. Tyler Kuhn, however, struck out while Brandon Short bounced into a 6-4-3 double play to push Corbin past J.J. Trujillo's nine-year old team mark.
Paul Goldschmidt gave Corbin a lead to work with in the top of the first as he clubbed his 21st home run of the season with A.J. Pollock aboard after he drew a one-out walk from Hector Santiago (3-1). Santiago surrendered a third tally to the BayBears (36-25) in the top of the second as Marc Krauss walked and took third on an Ed Easley double before an Ollie Linton bouncer to second brought Krauss to the dish.
In the fifth, Jake Elmore started a threat with a double to right-center. After Goldschmidt was intentionally walked, Elmore and Goldschmidt executed a double steal to perfection, setting up Taylor Harbin, who bounced into a fielder's choice which brought home Elmore to make it 4-0.
Corbin dazzled the Barons for eight solid frames as he matched his career-high and season-high with 10 strikeouts. He only gave up four hits while earning his fourth consecutive victory. With the win, the BayBears extended their lead in the South Division to 1.5 games over the second-place Barons with only nine contests remaining in the first half.
The BayBears are on the road for a crucial five-game set at Regions Park against the Birmingham Barons with game two on Friday night at 7:05. Right-handers Jarrod Parker (5-4) and Nevin Griffith (3-3) will start for their respective squads. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday, June 14 to battle the Montgomery Biscuits at 12:05 p.m., beginning the final series of the first half.
