Copeland Added for Prospects Game

January 3, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Will Join Drury and Moe Next Week

Waterloo, Iowa- Waterloo Black Hawks forward Ben Copeland was among the best players in the United States Hockey League during December; Wednesday the league added him to the roster for the 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

Last month, Copeland led the Hawks in points (11) and goals (five). Those totals ranked second and sixth respectively on a league-wide basis. Copeland's recent strong play, coupled with an injury to Jachym Kondelik of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, provided the chance for Waterloo's veteran forward to supplement the Team East roster during next week's exhibition.

This season's USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game will be played Tuesday in Kearney, Nebraska, at Viaero Center, hosted by the Tri-City Storm. Waterloo forward Jack Drury and goaltender Jared Moe were previously named to Team West's roster for the event. Participating players are all eligible for the 2018 NHL Draft and have been chosen to skate during the game by NHL scouts and team officials, as well as team staff from within the USHL.

For the season, Copeland ranks third on the Black Hawks with 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 26 games. Seven of the speedy winger's points have come on the power play. Last season during 56 appearances, Copeland had five goals and ten assists.

In November, NHL Central Scouting graded Copeland as a "C" prospect for the league's June draft. He is committed to Colorado College.
