New Britain, CT - Travis Ishikawa had four hits and two RBI to lead the Defenders to a 6-4 victory over the Rock Cats.

Oswaldo Sosa struggled with control in the first inning. He issued a one-out walk to Antoan Richardson, unleashed a wild pitch that put the runner on second, and then walked Kyle Haines. Ishikawa lined a single to left field that scored Richardson. Adam Witter added an RBI single to put the Defenders ahead, 2-0.

The Defenders struck again in the fifth. Richardson reached on another walk and stole second. He scored on Ishikawa's single to center field. Eddy Martinez-Esteve added an RBI double.

The Rock Cats finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Moses led off the inning with a double and scored on a two-out single by Dustin Martin. In the sixth, David Winfree delivered an RBI single that closed the gap, 4-3.

Defenders starter Adam Cowart (4-2, 2.98) pitched six solid innings, allowing three runs and six hits. Justin Hedrick added two shutout innings without a hit in relief. Osiris Matos picked up the save.

Sosa (2-4, 6.46) finished with four runs on six hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out five. Jason Miller added two scoreless innings with four strikeouts in relief. Zach Ward was struck for two hits and two runs in the eighth. It was the first time all season Ward allowed two runs in an outing, putting his ERA over the 1.00 mark for the first time (1.13).
