TIGERS USE BIG SIXTH TO GRAB THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY

Connecticut gets back over .500 with 6-2 win at Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, MD- The Connecticut Tigers (32-31) took advantage of wildness from the Aberdeen bullpen as they erased a two-run deficit with six in the sixth to defeat the Ironbirds 6-2 at Ripken Stadium Monday night.

Aberdeen jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third on a two-run triple by TJ Nichting. It stayed that way until the sixth, when 11 Tigers came to the plate. With one out, the big rally began with a Colby Bortles walk. Cam Warner then singled, and Dylan Rosa walked to load the bases. Hector Martinez lined a base hit to left field that got behind outfielder Jaylen Ferguson to clear the bases and give Connecticut its first lead of the night. After walks to Elys Escobar, Cole Peterson, and Garrett McCain forced in another run, Jordan Pearce lined a 2-2 pitch into right field to score a pair and make the score 6-2.

The Connecticut bullpen took over from there, with John Hayes, Will Vest, Dean Aldridge and Max Green combining for four hitless innings. In fact, not a single Aberdeen batter reached base off the quartet, who struck out seven in relief of starter Oswaldo Castillo (3-2).

With the win, the Tigers go back over .500 for the first time since August 11 and coupled with a Vermont loss, have creeped within 3 1/2 games of the first place Lake Monsters in the Stedler Division race.

Ken Figueroa (2-1) will get the start in game two of the series at Ripken Stadium Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05, and can be heard on 1310 WICH or online at www.cttigers.com
