TIGERS CAPITALIZE ON TRI-CITY MISCUES FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Castillo, Carlton dominate as ValleyCats fall 3 1/2 off Stedler pace

NORWICH, CT- Four Tri-City errors led to four unearned Connecticut runs as the Tigers defeated the ValleyCats 5-2 Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium.

Connecticut starting pitcher Oswaldo Castillo (2-2) was outstanding, going six innings of three-hit ball while giving up only an unearned run. Drew Carlton struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save in seven tries.

The Tigers jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third when Joey Morgan singled and went to second on an error. An out later, Dylan Rosa singled. With two down, Cole Peterson lifted a fly ball to left field that JJ Matijevic misplayed into a two-run error.

The Tigers also took advantage of ValleyCats mistakes in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0. Rosa doubled, and went to third on a Miguelangel Sierra error on a Garrett McCain grounder. That mistake proved costly as Rosa came home with the third run on a Cole Peterson sacrifice fly. After a Colby Bortles single, Junnell Ledezma scored McCain with a fielders' choice.

After Tri-City inched closer with single runs in the sixth and eighth, Morgan drove in Warner with a base hit in the bottom of the eight to give Connecticut a 5-2 lead.

Morgan led the way for the Tigers with a 3-for-4 night, while Rosa added two hits and a pair of runs scored.

The Tigers (28-30) will face the ValleyCats one more time at Dodd Stadium on Thursday night at 7:05. Tickets are available in person, by phone at 860-887-7962, or online at www.cttigers.com.
