Community Corner reaches out

Visalia Rawhide News Release

Visalia-Community Corner continues for the 2005 season. The Visalia Oaks and HG foods join efforts once again to provide a way for local charities to send groups to Visalia Oaks baseball games. HG Foods, owned by Gary and Jennifer Geiger of Visalia, have purchased fifty general admission tickets for all 70 of the Oaks’ regular season home games for this purpose.

“We always like to provide tickets for local non-profit organizations to have their volunteers or members of the organization come to our games,” said Oaks General Manager Jennifer Whiteley. “Community Corner is a great way to fill the needs for those groups and Community Corner helps us fulfill those requests regularly.”

Nearly one hundred charities with offices in Tulare and Kings Counties will receive a letter this week, which details the program and offers the opportunity to participate. During the 2004 season over 50 organizations participated in the very successful program.

“A program that helps organizations that deal with disadvantaged individuals is always a worthwhile cause,” continued Whiteley. “Especially when it also helps kids who love coming to our games that cannot afford to. Giving groups like the Boys and Girls Club, Pro Youth and the YMCA a chance to see professional baseball right in their own home town is something we are always glad to be a part of.” These groups are among the ones who have made requests for large numbers of tickets in the past. Any groups that do not receive a letter and would like to participate can contact John Drigotas at the Oaks’ office by calling 625-0480.

Other Opportunities: Non-profit groups are also welcome to organize a fundraiser through the Oaks. A block of Grandstand Reserved tickets for a particular game can be purchased by a non-profit group at the regular price of $6.00 each, and then sold for the same price of $6.00, to recoup the money. When the event is complete, the Oaks will then donate $3.00 per ticket back to that particular organization. In 2004, several groups held fundraisers through the Oaks with as many as 150 tickets sold per event.
