Comets' Season Comes to An End After Dropping Game Two

BOYDS, MD - For the second time in a six-day span, the Missouri Comets were unable to hold on to a two-goal lead late in the fourth quarter and fell in double overtime against the Baltimore Blast, who advanced to the Ron Newman Cup final following a 4-3 win in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Championship.

Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team's season came to and end at Royal Farms Arena without last year's MASL Most Valuable Player Leo Gibson throughout the second half after the Monrovia, Liberia native presented concussion symptoms at the halftime break following a collision with a Baltimore player.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Comets got on the board first when Gibson received a ball from Robert Palmer before firing a right-footed shot to the top right of goalkeeper William Vanzela's goal to make it 1-0.

Moments later, team captain Vahid Assadpour controlled and dribbled a ball from Max Touloute before blasting the ball to the bottom corner to double the lead and make it 2-0 after two quarters.

Following the break, Touloute made it a three-goal game at the 5:37 mark with an unassisted tally but Baltimore quickly got one back via Adriano Dos Santos assisted by Vanzela to end the third 3-1.

Just when it seemed as if Missouri would force a third and deciding mini-game, defender Brian Harris lost a ball to an empty-net for an easy Blast goal scored by Onua Obasi followed by the late equalizer scored by Lucas Roque to force the golden-goal overtime.

Twenty seconds into double overtime, Palmer was issued a blue card for tripping, which Baltimore capitalized twenty seconds later with a headed goal from Roque to end the match 4-3 and advance to the final.
