Comets Face Expansion Florida Tropics

December 16, 2016 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) News Release

KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Comets head to Lakeland, Florida to face one of the Major Arena Soccer League's (MASL) newest franchise, the Florida Tropics. The match is scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday, December 17th.

Kansas City Comets vs Florida Tropics Game Notes

The Comets currently have a 4-3 record which puts them only a game and a half out of first place in the Central Division. Facing the Tropics will be the team's second straight match against the MASL's Eastern Division. Kansas City has fared well when venturing outside of the Central Division. Since the 2013-2014 MISL season, the Comets are a combined 19-4 against teams outside the Midwest.

The Florida Tropics may be an expansion team, but they have quickly proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the MASL. From their very first match, the Tropics have fought for, and earned, the respect of their opponents. In that game against the San Diego Sockers, the team came back from being down 4-1 in the 4th quarter to tie it up late, then scored the game winner winning goal with 3 minutes left in the game.

Florida is led by Freddie Moojen (4G, 4A, 8P) and Ricardo Diegues (5G, 3A, 8P). Moojen serves as the Assistant Coach for the Tropics and the work ethic he has displayed throughout his career is evident in each of the players on the field with him.

Kansas City is led once again by Leo Gibson with seven goals and twelve assists. Following Gibson, there are five other Comets with at least four goals. Goalkeeper Stephen Paterson has turned heads all season, first by scoring the first goal off the foot of a goalkeeper in Kansas City since 2005. Then a couple weeks later, he recorded the first shutout of the season.

The Comets invite fans to watch the game on Saturday at Coach's Bar & Grille on 103rd & Wornall with other Comets fans. The game will also be streamed live on MASLtv, the league's new YouTube channel.

The Kansas City Comets have a long rich history of indoor soccer in KC, including the 2014 MISL Championship. The reigning Back-to-Back MASL Central Division champions play at the Silverstein Eve Centers Arena. For tickets and information call 855.452.GOAL (4625)
