Reno Aces News Release
RENO - The Reno Aces totaled six runs in the seventh and eighth innings on Thursday night, but it was not enough as the Las Vegas 51s won their third consecutive game in the series by an 8-6 score at Greater Nevada Field. Todd Glaesmann (@ToddGlaesmann22) sparked Reno in the field and at the plate, making a run-saving catch in the third inning and hitting a two-run triple in the seventh.
The visitors opened the scoring with four runs in the second on a pair of two-run home runs. Las Vegas added three more tallies in the following frame as Travis Taijeron hit a two-run double and pitcher Gabriel Ynoa helped his own cause with an RBI single. The 51s (40-33) looked to add more as Gavin Cecchini laced a deep fly ball to left-center, but Glaesmann chased it down to end the inning.
Mike Freeman's (@MikeBFree5) third-inning single was the Aces' only hit for the first six innings. After the 51s extended their lead to 8-0 on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh, Mitch Haniger (@M_Hanny19) and Zach Borenstein started Reno's half with back-to-back singles. Glaesmann then came to the plate and roped a triple to right-center, cutting the deficit to 8-2.
The Aces (39-34) continued their rally in the eighth. Brandon Drury got into scoring position on a two-base throwing error by Cecchini, advancing to third on Kyle Jensen's (@TheKJensen42) single and scoring on Haniger's RBI base hit to left. Borenstein then took a 1-0 offering from Seth Lugo out to right for a three-run home run, producing the final margin.
Borenstein, Glaesmann and Haniger each had two hits on the night. Borenstein recorded his fourth three-RBI game this season, and Glaesmann's triple gave him his fourth multi-RBI game of the campaign.
Ynoa (9-2) earned the win for Las Vegas, allowing two earned runs on four hits over 6 2/3 innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts. Reno's Edwin Escobar (4-2) took the loss, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits (two home runs) with three walks and one strikeout over five innings. Josh Smoker pitched the ninth to tally his first save for the 51s.
The Aces and 51s conclude their four-game series on Friday at Greater Nevada Field. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. PT. Right-hander Matt Buschmann (3-6, 5.37) is scheduled to start for Reno, while left-hander Darin Gorski (0-0, -.--) will pitch for Las Vegas.
