South Bend Cubs News Release

SOUTH BEND, IN - South Bend watched a 9-2 5th inning lead slip away but the Cubs recovered to stun West Michigan 11-10 in 10 innings Wednesday at Four Winds Field.

Adonis Paula picked up the game winning RBI on a line drive to right field scoring Matt Rose to complete a two-run tenth inning to top the Whitecaps after West Michigan took the lead with a run in the top of the inning. Andruw Monasterio was at first base but never touched second base on the final play. Even though the game was over, the Whitecaps got the ball from the outfield to get the force out at second base to take away a hit from Paula.

Eddy Martinez tied the game in the tenth on an RBI double plating Eloy Jimenez who had doubled.

Jimenez hit a three-run home run in the fifth followed by a Matt Rose solo shot staked the Cubs to a 9-2 lead.

The Whitecaps scored the games next eight runs between the fifth and the tenth innings to grab a 10-9 advantage.

The South Bend series against West Michigan wraps up tonight at 7:05pm(ET) on 96.1fm WSBT. The Cubs send to the mound Justin Steele (5-5, 5.51). This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
