Tomorrow's match is the second of three regular-season meetings between Columbus and Chicago during the 2016 Major League Soccer regular season as well as the lone visit by the Fire to MAPFRE Stadium in 2016. This is also the fourth of seven straight matches against Eastern Conference opponents for the Black & Gold as well as Crew SC's third contest in seven days. Columbus and Chicago meet to conclude their 2016 regular-season series on Thursday, October 13 at Toyota Park. All-time, Columbus is 16-24-16 against the Fire, including a record of 10-10-7 against the Men in Red in Central Ohio.
Crew SC and Chicago have met twice this season in all competitions, both at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. On March 19, Columbus and Chicago shared the points following a 0-0 draw and a clean sheet by Steve Clark. Then, on June 28, the Black & Gold again traveled to Toyota Park again for a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup contest that was won by the Fire by a 2-1 final.
In the Black & Gold's last regular-season match, on Wednesday against D.C. United, midfielder Justin Meram registered his 150th career MLS appearance, all for the Black & Gold. Meram ranks eighth in all-time regular-season appearances in club history, trailing Robert Warzycha by 10 matches for seventh and Brian McBride by 11 appearances for sixth.
As of the conclusion of Wednesday's match against the Black-and-Red, goalkeeper Steve Clark is in a three-way tie atop the MLS leaderboards in saves. The native of Michigan is tied with Portland's Jake Gleeson and Orlando's Joe Bendik in the category at 109. Clark is just five saves shy of tying his single-season MLS best, which was 114, registered last season.
