Winston-Salem Dash News Release

KINSTON, N.C. (April 28, 2017) - Behind a two-run homer by Zack Collins and another strong start from Tanner Banks, Winston-Salem outlasted Down East 4-1 in the series opener on Friday at Grainger Stadium.

Following a leadoff triple in the first by Luis Basabe against Wood Ducks starter Emerson Martinez (0-1), Collins stroked his second home run of the season over the center field wall to give the Dash (8-14) a 2-0 edge. The former first-round pick, who is ranked the sixth-best prospect in the White Sox system by Baseball America, has hit both of his long balls this year on the road.

On the mound, Banks (4-0) posted his fifth straight quality start to begin the 2017 campaign. The southpaw tossed seven dominant innings, yielding just five hits and one earned run. Banks also struck out five batters while walking two. The Utah native now possesses a 1.36 ERA this season.

Winston-Salem added on to its early advantage in the third. With a runner on third and two down, Aaron Schnurbusch lined an RBI single to left to put the Dash ahead 3-0. The former Pitt Panther registered his fourth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4. Winston also got two-hit efforts from the aforementioned Basabe and Brady Conlan, the latter of which extended his on-base streak to seven straight games.

The Woodies (10-12) lone scoring frame occurred in the next half inning. Eduard Pinto delivered a one-out, RBI single to bring home Josh Altmann, who started the frame with a base knock.

However, the Dash would cap the scoring in the sixth. Schnurbusch hit a one-out single, and two batters later, Toby Thomas roped an RBI double down the left field line.

Winston-Salem's bullpen didn't miss a beat in backing Banks' great outing. Yelmison Peralta tossed a hitless eighth, and Aaron Bummer shut the door with a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save of the season.
