Colin McDonald Named Reebok / AHL Player of the Week

Oklahoma City - Oklahoma City Barons forward Colin McDonald was named the Reebok American Hockey League Player of the Week for the week of April 4 - April 10, the league's front office announced today.

McDonald, a 6-3, 205-pounder from Hartford, Conn. recorded eight points (6-2-8), 24 shots and was +6 in the Barons three games last weekend. He started the weekend with a four-goal outburst, leading the Barons to a 7-2 win April 8 over San Antonio. He followed that with a goal in the Barons 2-0 win April 9 over Texas. In the team's final game of the weekend, he had a hand in all three Barons goals in their 6-3 loss to Houston.

His goal against Houston was of the monumental variety. Entering the final game of the regular season, he was tied with Hamilton forward Nigel Dawes for the AHL goal-scoring lead at 41. With just under two minutes left to play, McDonald scored his 42nd of the year, earning him the Willie Marshall Award for regular season goal-scoring champion.

For the season, McDonald played in all 80 Barons games and posted a career-best 42 goals and 58 points. His 19 power-play goals was also tops in the AHL. McDonald's 42 goals this season were more than his previous three AHL seasons goal-scoring totals.

He is the fourth Barons player, and second consecutive, to earn Reebok AHL Player of the Week honors this season. He joins Linus Omark, Bryan Helmer and Jeff Deslauriers as winners of the weekly award. In recognition of his achievement, McDonald will be presented with an etched crystal award.

The Barons open their first-round playoff series with the Hamilton Bulldogs, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, Thursday in Hamilton at 6:30 p.m. (ct). Game 2 of the best-of-7 series is in Hamilton April 16 at 3 p.m. (ct). The Barons home slate of games will be Game 3 on April 19 and Game 4 on 20 at the Cox Convention Center. Faceoff for both games is 7:05 p.m. Should the series require a Game 5, it will be played in Oklahoma City April 22 at 7:05 p.m. Games 6 and 7 would be April 24 and 25 in Hamilton.
