(Chicago, IL) - With the 7th pick in the 5th round (131st overall) at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in Chicago, Illinois, the Detroit Red Wings selected Petes defenceman Cole Fraser.

Fraser, a 6'2", 191lbs defenceman from Beckwith, Ontario, played a great season with the Petes in 2016-17. The sophomore recorded 6 goals, 13 assists, 19 points and 82 penalty minutes this season, dressing for 61 regular season games. The sturdy blue-liner was a force throughout playoffs, recording a +1 rating in 12 games.

"For the Petes to bring me in as a 16 year old and to help me develop the way that I have, I can't thank our coaching staff enough for helping me get to this point," said Fraser. "The feeling I had when I heard my name called was something I could have only dreamed of."
