Mississauga Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Steelheads win consecutive games for the first time since mid-November. Spenser Cobbold recorded his first career multi-goal game and Thomas Welsh lead the Steelheads physical play to send Niagara packing.
Steven Shipley redirected a Luke Mercer point shot on the man-advantage to give the visitors the lead. Mississauga was penalized on three consecutive occasions to start the game. Dylan DeMelo added his career-high 15th goal of the season, a powerplay marker from the top of the circle, to equalize minutes later. Jordan Maletta restored the IceDogs lead before the end of the period, pouncing on a deflected puck after a set of Steelheads turnovers.
Cobbold added his first of the night at 10:41 of the second period, deflecting a DeMelo shot past Brent Moran. Welsh then caught an unsuspecting Ben Hughes in the neutral zone before taking on Mack Lemmon with five minutes remaining in the frame. Following the altercation, Mississauga controlled the play and Cobbold redirected a Trevor Carrick point shot in the high slot for his second goal of the game.
The Steelheads played a conservative third period, limiting the IceDogs space and opportunities. Stuart Percy fired a puck in the direction of Moran on the powerplay and the puck eventually eluded the Niagara goalie. Mississauga finished the game with three goals on five man-advantage opportunities.
The Steelheads visit Matthew Campagna and his Sudbury Wolves tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Mississauga returns to the Hershey Centre next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. when they welcome former Mississauga player Joseph Cramarossa and the Belleville Bulls. Great seats are still available for both games by calling (905) 502 - 7788, visiting the Hershey Centre Box Office, or logging on to Ticketmaster.
