Clippers Nearly No-Hit Bisons

Four Columbus pitchers nearly combined for the first no-hitter in the history of Huntington Park in an 8-0 shutout win over Buffalo.
It was a good old fashioned pitcher's duel to begin this game. Buffalo lefty J.A. Happ and Columbus righty Danny Salazar combined for eight strikeouts through the first 2 =C21/2 innings of play. Salazar only lasted five innings, but he was dominant in each and every one of them as he struck out eight and did not give up a single hit.
The Clippers cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with a Luis Hernandez RBI single. They later added to that lead with a Matt Carson RBI single in the fourth and a Tim Fedroff RBI single in the fifth.
Fedroff kept driving in runs, plating two more with a two run single in the sixth and forcing home a run with a bases loaded walk in the eighth. Chun Chen and Hermida also drove home runs with consecutive RBI singles in the same frame.
The Clippers pitching staff spun an absolute gem at Huntington Park. Preston Guilmett relieved Salazar in the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings. Vinnie Pestano hurled a scoreless eighth, setting up potential history in the ninth.
Left-hander Clay Rapada came on for the Clippers in the top of the ninth. Sean Ochinko led off the frame with a flyout to center. Mike McCoy struck out swinging for the second out. All that stood in the way was Buffalo outfielder Anthony Gose. Gose broke the hearts of Clippers fans when he lined a single into right center. Columbus would go on to shutout Buffalo. Salazar (W, 4-2) got the win. J.A. Happ (L, 0-2) was hit with the loss for Buffalo.
The Clippers will hit the road as they begin a five game, two city series with the Mud Hens on Saturday night. Columbus will have Daisuke Matsuzaka (3-6, 4.02) get the start on the mound. Toledo will counter with lefty Blaine Hardy (4-0, 1.71). First pitch at Fifth Third Field is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
